Practice Profile
David Edwards & Associates was formed in 1985 by David Edwards.
Tim Pugh joined the company in 1990 and became a Partner in 1992.
Peter Hine, who originally joined DEA in 1986 as a technician,
re-joined DEA as Senior Engineer in 2000 and became a partner
in 2003. David Edwards retired at the end of 2007, but remains
closely affiliated to the practice and is regularly engaged as
a Consultant.
DEA has considerable experience in the design of new build commercial,
industrial and residential buildings using both traditional and modern
materials and methods. We also design most civil engineering works
associated with a new development such as estate roads and drainage
systems.
The Practice regularly assists Clients with refurbishment and alteration
to existing properties and has had involvement in structures ranging
from traditional dutch barns to the Grand Pier at Weston-super-Mare.
We have particular knowledge of the local ground conditions and are often
required to design non traditional foundations such as piles and rafts.
We also report on structural defects and failures and can provide
recommendations for remedial works.
DEA Work Ethic
Several years ago, to take advantage of the recent improvement in
computer-aided design, and to reduce the delay created by transfer
of ideas to a third party, the Practice made a policy decision not
to engage draughtsmen or technicians. Design work, drawing work and
contract administration is carried out by the project engineer who
is therefore familiar and directly responsible for all aspects of
the work. This approach enables the Engineer's ideas to be directly
translated into calculations, correspondence and drawings in
electronic format for issue as e-mail or by CD-ROM.
The effect of this has been to reduce the number of staff and
overheads, but improve production, efficiency and client satisfaction.
